Oliver began making prototypes in 1888 when he made his first model. But in 1890 he filed his first typewriter and from there his company took off. The Oliver No. 9 produced more than any other model and it can be seen as an updated N0. 7.

It features capital and figure shift keys on both sides of the keyboard and it also has knobs on the ribbon spool covers.
